Background of the Study:
Public diplomacy is an essential element in shaping international perceptions and fostering soft power. With the rise of digital platforms, social media has become a crucial channel for governments to communicate their narratives and engage with global audiences. In Kaduna State, public diplomacy initiatives leverage social media strategies to project a positive image, promote national values, and counter negative stereotypes (Ibrahim, 2023). This study examines the effectiveness of social media campaigns in enhancing public diplomacy, analyzing the role of platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram in disseminating information and influencing public opinion. It evaluates the impact of these digital initiatives on international perceptions, considering factors like message framing, audience engagement, and strategic communication. By reviewing case studies, content analysis, and expert interviews, the research provides a comprehensive assessment of how social media strategies contribute to shaping global perceptions and enhancing diplomatic outcomes (Chukwu, 2024).
Statement of the problem:
Despite extensive use of social media in public diplomacy, there are concerns about message consistency, misinformation, and limited audience reach, which may undermine diplomatic objectives (Olu, 2023). This study seeks to identify these challenges and assess the overall influence of social media strategies on global perceptions of Kaduna State’s diplomatic efforts.
Objectives of the Study:
To evaluate the role of social media in shaping public diplomacy in Kaduna State.
To identify challenges affecting the effectiveness of digital communication strategies.
To recommend improvements for more impactful public diplomacy campaigns.
Research questions:
How do social media strategies influence global perceptions of Kaduna State?
What challenges hinder the effectiveness of these strategies?
How can digital diplomacy be optimized for better outcomes?
Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it highlights the transformative role of social media in public diplomacy. The findings will help policymakers and communication professionals design more effective digital campaigns, enhancing international engagement and soft power (Ellis, 2024).
